  • Kids’ News – God Will Provide

    Have you ever faced something so hard that you could not see the way forward?

    This week’s story from Genesis 22:1-14 is one of the most difficult stories in the Bible. God asked Abraham to do something that seemed impossible. He asked Abraham to trust God with his son Isaac, the child God had promised him. Abraham did not understand how this could make sense, but he trusted God. Together, Abraham and Isaac traveled to a mountain to worship God and make a sacrifice.

    As they climbed the mountain, Isaac noticed something was missing. They had the wood and the fire, but there was no animal for the sacrifice. Isaac asked his father where the lamb was. Abraham answered, “God will provide.” At the last moment, God stopped Abraham and provided a ram instead. Isaac was safe, and Abraham named that place “The Lord Provides.”

    This story does not teach us that God wants to hurt us or scare us. It teaches us that even when life feels impossible, God is still with us. We may not always understand what is happening or see the answer right away. But we can trust that God sees us, loves us, and provides what we need.

    God’s provision may not always look the way we expect. Sometimes God provides help through another person. Sometimes God gives us courage, patience, wisdom, or peace. Sometimes God opens a path we could not see before.

    What We Learned

    • God is with us in difficult moments.
    • Faith does not mean we always understand everything.
    • God provides in ways we may not expect.
    • We can trust God’s love, even when the path ahead is unclear.

    There was so much to be thankful for this past Sunday.

    A heartfelt thank you to Rev. Beverly Tye for sharing such an encouraging message about trusting God in the ordinary moments of life. Her reminder that God is always at work, even when we cannot yet see the outcome, was one many of us needed to hear.

    We’re also grateful to Lynette Coleman-Falck for her beautiful rendition of 10,000 Reasons. Her gift of music helped prepare our hearts for worship and reminded us of God’s faithfulness.

    One of the things that makes Saint Matthew so special is the variety of gifts God has brought together in this church family. Whether someone is preaching, singing, serving behind the scenes, welcoming visitors, or caring for one another, every gift helps us become the church God is calling us to be.

    Thank you as well to the team at Julianne’s Design for sharing ideas about refreshing our bathrooms and shared spaces. Their presentation gave us plenty to think about as we consider how to make our church even more welcoming for our members, our guests, and our community. As you reflect on the ideas, please share your thoughts. We want to hear what you think as we prayerfully discern the next steps together.

  • What’s God Up To in Ordinary Times?

    Most of life is lived in ordinary moments. We move through familiar routines, carry responsibilities, and sometimes face long seasons of waiting or uncertainty. Yet Scripture reminds us that God is not absent in these everyday moments. God’s steadfast love never ceases, and God’s mercies are made new every morning, offering hope even when we cannot yet see what God is doing.

    In Luke’s Gospel, Jesus notices a woman who had lived with suffering for eighteen years before healing her on the Sabbath. While others focused on rules and expectations, Jesus saw a beloved child of God and responded with compassion. Her story reminds us that God’s work is often unfolding long before we recognize it. Even in seasons that seem ordinary, God is present, faithful, and at work in ways we may not yet understand.

    As followers of Christ, we are invited to trust God’s faithfulness in every season. We do not have to wait for extraordinary experiences to encounter God’s presence. Through worship, prayer, acts of kindness, and the daily rhythms of discipleship, God continues to shape us, strengthen us, and lead us forward with hope.

    • Is there a season of waiting where God may be inviting you to trust rather than lose hope?
    • How can you help someone else recognize God’s presence in an ordinary moment this week?

  • Kids’ News: A Blessing for the Future

    Scripture: Genesis 27:1-40; Hebrews 11:20

    Have you ever had someone tell you, “I believe in you”?

    Near the end of his life, Isaac gathered his sons to bless them. A blessing is more than kind words. It is a way of asking God to guide, protect, and care for someone. Isaac knew there had been mistakes, disagreements, and hurt feelings in his family. Even so, he trusted that God was still at work.

    Isaac remembered the promises God had made to his father, Abraham. He believed those promises would continue through his children and grandchildren. Even though he could not see exactly how everything would happen, Isaac trusted God to lead the way.

    This Father’s Day, we can remember that our words and actions matter. When we encourage someone, pray for them, or remind them that God loves them, we are helping pass along faith and hope to the next generation. Just like Isaac, we can trust that God is working in ways we cannot always see.

    The good news is that God’s promises do not stop with one person or one family. God’s love continues from generation to generation, and each of us has a place in God’s story.

    What We Learned

    • A blessing is a way of sharing faith, hope, and encouragement.
    • God’s promises continue from one generation to the next.
    • We can help others grow in faith through our words, prayers, and actions.
